26 Chapters Done

I am through twenty six chapters of the incredible novel that is The Grapes of Wrath. The Grapes of Wrath is written by a genius, John Steinbeck. Reading through this book has been quite the incredible journey and it is very interesting to read this huge "painting" that John Steinbeck has created. I now fully understand basically every other chapter is telling the stories of America; whether it be the land, the people, or the situations that were happening during this migration.

The Grapes of Wrath is starting to become quite the drama novel. So much has happened in the past three chapters. I mean Tom is a murderer again! I understand why he killed the police man, but it is still killing somebody. Also the family actually found a job, sure it is not very much at all; but it is still a job. They were able to feed themselves and survive again. Yes, they were still hungry, but a little is better than nothing.

It is cool to read about how the people whom are staying in the government camp are planning to demonstrate against the low wages. I love to read about people who are having a tough time and who care enough to fight for what they deserve. Not too many people are willing to do this kind of thing. It is very creative of John Steinbeck to add this to the story.

In chapter twenty five we finally get why the novel is called The Grapes of Wrath. The novel states, "In the souls of the people, the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.” The California vineyards start to go bad and these grapes in these vineyards are the grapes of wrath.

I can not wait until I get to read these last three chapters of the novel and see how John Steinbeck has decided to end this amazing and creative novel. I just hope he does not ruin the story with the ending.

24 Chapters Done

Wow, so I just realized I had this blog all done and did not even post it! Here it is:

I have just got done reading twenty four chapters of Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. And whew! what an exhaustion! This book is so incredibly boring! I can not believe this is considered a good book by my father. What book was he thinking about when he told me this book was an easy read? I find it hard just to stay awake when I read this book! My dad must have been a machine at reading.

But Tom is cool. The more I read this book the more I like him. He is a very interesting and nice person to read about. I see a lot of him in myself. Besides the murdering thing and all. I just wish he would not have killed that man. He could have not been on probation then we could have seen the true bamf that Tom actually can be.

How good and caring of Rose of Sharon to not party it up. She has a child that she is bearing and she put that first instead of her. That is the way mothers should be. It is a shame that some mothers do not even take care of their children nowadays. If only all mothers were like Rose of Sharon and actually cared about their children then this world could be that much of a better place. Who Knows? Maybe there would not be terrorists anymore? Maybe serial killers would not be present. It is just astounding to think about.

I find it hard to believe that the whole riot thing actually worked. How can starting a riot solve a feud? I guess it is the same concept as how can shooting and bombing a bunch of people solve a conflict between two countries, or itself. But I would think a riot between workers and townspeople would create a tension that you could cut with a knife.

23 Chapters Out the Door

I am through with reading the first twenty three chapters of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. THis book is beginning to be so real in my mind. It feels like I am reading about my lineage from eighty years ago. This book is just speaking to me and drawing me in loser and closer. Word by word it gets more real and deeper int my mind. I felt that chapter twenty three really stood out to me and I have decided to dissect it further. I know it is crazy to spar away from my usual two chapter blog, but I really liked this chapter.

One thing that I really liked about this chapter was the fact that all of the Okies came together to play music and tell stories. Things like this happen all the time throughout history and still do. Back in the ancient days countries would stop their fighting for a time and send their soldiers to compete in the Olympics. It is much like that today only with music. If you look at concerts like Lollapolooza or Woodstock, you will see they are very similar. Many different kinds of people whether it be black, white, hippies, or sober they came and come together for a common purpose. To forget their troubles and fears for a temporary time and enjoy their time with each other and the MUSIC. I know music is different from the Olympics, but people came together for a common cause to forget something. There is also nothing better than sitting around a fire and telling those famous campfire stories that have been passed down for eons and are always just os entertaining.

This chapter show the lighter side of what the Okies had to go throuhg. It showed a time when they actually did enjoy their hard times and could actually have some fun and forgot about something; even if that time was not for very long. It gave them hope. Hope in which every one deserved.

22 Chapters Done

I am through with twenty two chapters of the first novel of my junior summer. The book that I have been reading is The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. The reason I am adding these so late is because I have been to lazy to copy them from word and paste them onto here. I am pretty pathetic.

But back to the book. I am glad that Ma has finally been relieved of her depression- ish stage of this book. It was sad to read about how sad Ma was getting as people began to die or run away from the family. She is even getting to be a happy person again thanks to Tom getting a job. It means the family can actually have some kind of money coming in even though it can't provide for them. Twenty five cents is not much now, but it was a reasonable sum in this day. This sum is not high enough of a wage and in no way can it provide for the Joads.

Chapter twenty one was pretty cool to read. It reminds me of reading my history book earlier this year in twentieth century history. We read about all of the big farmers and how many more large farms there were beginning to be and how many less small farms there were becoming. The large farmers would buy the small farmers lands. The small farmers could not provide for their families as inflation began and so they had to sell their property and many times move to town. It is sad, me coming from a small farming community in rural Iowa, to read about this kind of stuff as it did happen to my ancestors. This made it a challenge for my family to continue.

I am beginning to see now that every other chapter is beginning to be like the pieces of a puzzle. As I read more I am sure these pieces will come together and make sense to me. It is kind of like the painting style that uses the little tiny dots to create the picture. I have no clue what it is called but they are similar.
